    Melissa A. Byers, D.V.M.    

Dr. Byers is a 1981 graduate of the University of California at Davis.  She worked in a multi-doctor practice in Anaheim for six years and then became the owner of Lake Forest Animal Clinic in 1987. Dr. Byers is married and has two teenage sons.  Her husband, Rich Rauh, is an architect specializing in veterinary hospitals. Dr. Byers stays busy just keeping up with her family's many activities.



Jennifer Self, D.V.M.

Lake Forest Animal Clinic is pleased to welcome Dr. Jennifer Self to our staff.  Dr. Self received her Bachelor degree of Science in Biology from San Diego State University in 1997 and graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University in 2001.  Dr. Self's special interests are internal medicine, dermatology, and soft tissue surgery.  Her husband is a sixth grade school teacher and they have two young daughters.  They also keep busy taking care of their two dogs and four cats.  Dr. Self enjoys the exciting field of veterinary medicine and truly loves her job.


  
Karen O'Neill, D.V.M.

 

 

 Lake Forest Animal Clinic is pleased to welcome Dr. Karen O'Neill to our staff.  Dr. O'Neill graduated from U.C. Davis in 1985 with a Bachelor's degree in Physiological Chemistry and in 1989 from the School of Veterinary Medicine. She worked as a research biochemist during her years at U.C. Davis.  Dr. O'Neill enjoys practicing small mammal medicine and surgery, including "pocket pets" such as rabbits, rats, ferrets, and guinea pigs.  Her special interests include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and canine reproduction.  Dr. O'Neill lives in Irvine with her husband and two daughters. She is active in equestrian sports and trains and competes in dressage.


                                   
                            
Lisa Shimomura, D.V.M.

Lake Forest Animal Clinic is pleased to welcome Dr. Lisa Shimomura to our staff.  Dr. Shimomura an Orange County native, attended UCLA for undergraduate studies and UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in California, graduating in 1996.   She has since been providing healthcare for dogs and cats (and the occasional rat and rabbit!) for nearly 14 years, licensed in both California and Montana..   In 2008, Dr. Lisa began working solely with spay and neuter programs in the county and has been focused on providing high quality spay and neuter surgeries ever since. She has successfully performed over 3,000 surgeries in Orange County within the last 2 years alone, and has become quite passionate on the issues of pet-overpopulation.

By creating Simply Spay and Neuter of Orange County at Lake Forest Animal Clinic, Dr. Lisa will now continue to provide these needed services at a lower cost that will make these procedures more affordable for most pet owners and caretakers of our animal companions.   She will be working closely with Dr. Melissa Byers and her staff as they look forward to an exciting and new opportunity and challenge.

Dr. Lisa now resides in Orange County with her husband, Iain, and her son, Jaxon  but the two dogs, Marley and Sandy, and two cats, Thomas and Monster, reign supreme.  You can find her in her off-time, hiking  a local hill or riding her bike, but mostly spending time with family and friends.

                       
                       Jason L. Trope, D.V.M.

Lake Forest Animal Clinic is pleased to welcome Dr. Jason Trope to our staff.  Dr. Trope is an undergraduate of Purdue University and a 1999 graduate of Purdue University Veterinary School. He is a native of Florida and moved to California six years ago.  In his spare time he enjoys scuba diving, flying, and paint ball.  Dr. Trope has a special interest in surgery.
